News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 17, 2002

Tech Data Corporation has enhanced its wireless communications offerings through a new distribution agreement with Cingular Wireless, the second largest wireless company in the U.S. Under terms of the agreement, Tech Data will distribute Research in Motion (RIM) 957, 950 and Enterprise Server Software communications products with Cingular’s Xpress Mail Enterprise Edition nationwide wireless service.

Cingular Xpress Mail, available via the carrier's Mobitex network, gives users a real-time and secure view of their desktops - Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes corporate e-mail, calendars, personal contacts and corporate directories.

“This agreement speaks volumes of our ability to provide channel model leadership to the IT industry and our reseller customers through new products and services from companies such as Cingular Wireless and Research in Motion,” said Joe Serra, Tech Data’s vice president of product marketing. “This wireless communications offering for our reseller customers is an example of our proactive initiatives strategy, which is designed to help our channel partners’ business models evolve with the IT industry.”

Research firm IDC is projecting that mobile middleware applications, including wireless e-mail, will grow from $227 million in 2001 to $1.7 billion in 2006, a compound annual growth rate of 50 percent.
