U.S. Patent Office Likely to Rule in RIM's Favor

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - December 20, 2005

According to The New York Times, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has notified both sides in the Research In Motion vs NTP dispute, that they will likely strike down all five patents at the heart of the dispute.

"The patent owner's arguments are deemed nonpersuasive," said the patent office document, which was received last week. "The next office action is expected to be a final rejection of all current claims."

What will happens next is anyone's guess. RIM believes that the case is over because they cannot infringe upon a patent that is not valid. NTP will of course appeal the decision. Stay tuned.
