BlackBerry Magnum prototype drops trackpad for touchscreen display

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - January 21, 2010

This BlackBerry is believed to be a prototype called the "Magnum" that will never make it to store shelves. CB is reporting this is a pre-Dakota prototype, but some interesting features are worth noting.

First of all, this BlackBerry does not have a trackball or trackpad. It looks as if RIM is going for a touchscreen on top with the Bold-style keyboard on the bottom. We've longed for the day when RIM would have a touchscreen with full QWERTY keyboard, but we'd like to see some kind of center navigation as well.

This prototype also has a "liquid lens" for high quality pictures.

Will a BlackBerry like this hit the stores sometime soon? No official word right now but it's interesting to see RIM experiment with new designs. Keep em coming.
