BlackBerry to hold top stop among smartphones for 5 years

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - November 15, 2010

Despite all the hoopla around rival smartphone makers like Apple and Google, Research in Motion's BlackBerry will keep the top spot when it comes to marketshare until 2015. Of course, that is if you believe a new report by ABI Research. The study says that consumers have more choices now, but the BlackBerry will remain on top.

"The study, by ABI Research, found that RIM will lose market share by 2015. The research firm expects RIM's Blackberry to maintain 26% of the mobile operating system world market by 2015, matched by Google's Android OS with 26%. Nokia's Symbian OS will take 16%, Microsoft Windows OS 11% and Apple iOS 14%."

At the rate that Android is exploding around the world this seems hard to believe, but I guess RIM had a huge head start.
