Verizon says BlackBerry 6 OS has ‘No Material Impact’

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - December 06, 2010

RIM has been doing its best to stay ahead of rivals Apple and Google in the smartphone market, and BlackBerry OS 6 is the evidence of that. New BlackBerry devices are loaded with BlackBerry OS 6, but it looks like at least one carrier doesn't see much benefit from the new OS.

According to the Chicago Independent Press, analyst Shaw Wu quotes insiders within Verizon as saying the company sees “no material value” in RIM’s BlackBerry OS 6.

That's not very good news for RIM, however it could be that most of Verizon is focused on the iPhone these days. Reports are that Verizon will offer the iPhone 4 in January. The BlackBerry is a different animal than the iPhone so it's not time to panic....yet.

RIM still has time to get its act together. The previews of RIM's PlayBook tablet have been pretty good so far. The OS seems snappy and even holds up well against the iPad. Can RIM slow the loss of their marketshare in the smartphone market?
