RIM looking to buy its own mobile ad network

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - August 19, 2010

According to the Wall Street Journal Research in Motion is looking to get into the mobile advertising business.

In an effort to keep up with Apple and Google RIM is looking to acquire a mobile advertising network. The company had been in talks with Baltimore-based Millennial Media, but the talks apparently broke down when RIM would not agree to cough up the $400 million that Millennial thinks it is worth.

RIM executives are said to be reluctant to pay a high price for an ad network, apparently believing that Google and Apple paid too much for AdMob and Quattro respectively. RIM had better jump in the game quick as they are being left behind.

Frankly, I'd love to see RIM do without a mobile advertising network. The last thing we need on our phones is more ads.
