Nokia and Microsoft join forces

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - February 11, 2011

Nokia and Microsoft make deal over smartphones? Holy cow!!! Big news and sad news for Symbian fans. Nokia has made a deal with Microsoft that will dramatically change the smartphone market.

Nokia Corp., the world's largest cell phone maker, said Friday it will use Microsoft's Windows Phone software as the main platform for its smartphones going forward. This is a major shift for Nokia and a major get for Microsoft. Windows Phone will now have immediate access to the largest manufacturer of phones. The deal will "deliver an ecosystem with unrivaled global reach and scale," Nokia said.

This is a huge positive for Microsoft, and a big risk for Nokia. Symbian OS has been on the decline for the last several years and it looks like it will finally bite the dust. Android, iOS, and even BlackBerry have put too much pressure on Symbian.
