Bank of America tests mobile payment system with BlackBerry smartphones

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - February 25, 2011

Want to pay for goods with your BlackBerry? According to BGR, Bank of America is running a trial program called Mobile Wallet. They are invited select customers to try out the new system. It's all based on NFC technology. Customers invited to try the Mobile Wallet payment system will be sent a new battery cover and microSD card.

Supported devices include the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8530; BlackBerry Bold 9000, 9650 and 9700; and BlackBerry Tour 9630.

Payments can be made at any merchant that already supports Mastercard's PayPass system. BGR says the program will debut sometime this spring.

Everyone is expecting the next iPhone to have NFC capabilities, but it looks like BlackBerry is beating Apple to the punch.
