RIM should follow Apple's lead to survive

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - June 27, 2011

RIM has had quite a bit of bad news lately. The company had a rough earnings report, and their market share has been in steady decline for awhile now. Once the dominant player in enterprise mobile, the company is struggling to stay relevant in light of iOS and Android's popularity.

Tim Bajarin of PC Magazine suggests RIM should get back to basics, and follow Apple's lead. Apple had similar problems in the 90s as the company tried to compete with the PC, only to find itself trying to be all things to all people, leaving its core customers out in the cold. That strategy resulted in a company that was a billion dollars in the red, and wasn't meeting the needs of its core customers.

RIM was very good at enterprise mobile which made them the dominant player. The company was known for secure email in the mobile space, yet in recent years they have tried to broaden their appeal in the consumer market. Bajarin suggests the company should focus on their core strengths and try to innovate to meet their core customer's needs.

Can the strategy pull RIM out of the funk that they're in? Maybe. Either way, this is a great article and an interesting read. Check out the Full Story link below.
