The Inside BlackBerry Blog site was hacked today because hackers were upset with RIM for agreeing to aid police in their investigation over London riots. Police believe an instant message could have been used to organize the riots, and RIM issued the following statement agreeing to aid police.
“We feel for those impacted by this weekend’s riots in London. We have engaged with the authorities to assist in any way we can. As in all markets around the world Where BlackBerry is available, we cooperate with local telecommunications operators, law enforcement and regulatory officials. Similar to other technology providers in the UK we comply with The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and co-operate fully with the Home Office and UK police forces.”
Hackers defaced the blog and posted a message that started with, "No Blackberry you will NOT assist the police." The blog was taken down for a time and then restored. An archive of the hacked copy can be seen here.
