Rumors have swirled this past week about RIM possibly being acquired by companies like Samsung, or Amazon. Most of those rumors have generally fallen on deaf ears however. In fact, Samsung said they are not even interested in buying RIM. However, that doesn't mean that RIM can't license their technology to companies like Samsung as a way to boost revenue.
Reuters talked to a prominent RIM shareholder who was briefed by the company. The shareholder believes Samsung is interested in a licensing deal.
RIM will likely go after other companies for licensing deals and they should. They have lost significant marketshare in the last 2 years, and with their current leadership there are no signs of the company turning things around by simply selling hardware.

"I'm secure they're talking about licensing stuff," the shareholder said, referring to the South Korean smartphone maker. "I don't know if they're looking to buy the company and I don't care."
