We've heard rumors of the BlackBerry 2012 roadmap this week, but now we have some solid evidence. BGR has gotten its hands on the official roadmap as well as some internal slides, which they published for the world to see. It looks like the original rumors were largely true.
RIM is planning to introduce a HSPA+ BlackBerry PlayBook with a 1.5 GHZ processor and NFC. They will also release several Curves aimed at the entry-level market. Probably the biggest and most disappointing news is that the BlackBerry 10 devices are not slated to be released until at least September, and could even be pushed back until October. That's an eternity in the smartphone market and could put RIM in such a deep hole that they won't recover from it.
RIM really needs a new strategy at this point. The smartphone world has decided that physical keyboards aren't necessary, and lots of apps, and easy development of apps, rule. RIM should seriously consider adopting a version of Android that includes their flagship apps (BIS, BES, BBM, etc.) at this point. Building on QNX that can run some Android apps just seems like a waste of time when they're so far behind everyone else.
