RIM about to oust co-founders from the Board?

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - January 03, 2012

Research in Motion could be considering ousting co-founders Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie from the Board of Directors due to pressure from stock holders. The Financial Post reports that RIM is considering the move. The pair would supposedly hang on to their titles as co-CEOs, but would step down from the board.

Barbara Stymiest, an independent director who joined RIM’s board in 2007, is believed to be the leading candidate to be the new Chairman.

RIM agreed to a governance review committee last summer in an effort to avoid a public confrontation at its annual general shareholders’ meeting. The review looked specifically at the rolls of the co-founders on RIM's board, and apparently concluded that both men needed to go.

Will the move be enough to change the direction RIM has been going over the last 2 years? It's doubtful. Until RIM gets new leadership in the CEO spot they seem destined to follow the path that Palm walked down. Here's hoping I'm wrong...
