Shares of Research in Motion were up as much as 9% on Thursday after the company confirmed they are on schedule to release BlackBerry 10 next year. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins released a statement confirming BlackBerry 10 has been tested with 50 carriers, and is on schedule for Q1 2013 release.
Is this really big news for RIM? Apparently some investors think so. RIM has been a sinking ship for so long that any positive news is viewed favorably by some investors. Let's hope RIM stays on schedule this time. There have already been several delays in bringing BlackBerry 10 to market. It was supposed to be out already.
"I'm very pleased to confirm that we have passed a critical milestone in the development of our brand new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10," Heins said. "We made this commitment during our recent results conference call and we have delivered."
