The Essex Police in the UK have been issued BlackBerrys with a special fingerprint reading app to assist them in their day to day duties. Now police can identify people quickly by scanning their fingerprints and matching it against the national fingerprint database. The special BlackBerrys were given to the Essex Police by the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), where the officers are trained in how to use the device. I wonder if the ACLU would let this fly in the US.
