KAYAK drops support for BlackBerry app

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - February 06, 2012

KAYAK has announced that the company is dropping support for its BlackBerry app. The company says it's a practical decision, as their BlackBerry using audience has declined significantly. They have issued an apology to BlackBerry users on the company website.

"We are sincerely sorry to BlackBerry users, but we have regrettably come to this practical decision.

When we started KAYAK in 2004, we issued BlackBerries to the entire engineering team so we could communicate instantly 24/7. Today we've all switched, and it seems our users are doing the same. Our audience of BlackBerry users has been declining precipitously, and we can't justify the cost any longer.

Interestingly, the company says they will still support Windows Phone which has a much smaller marketshare than BlackBerry. Obviously, Kayak is betting on the future of Microsoft and not the current numbers.

I know RIM has been in decline, but this honestly feels very early to drop support for BlackBerry. There are still a ton of BlackBerry users out there. Oh well.
