Research in Motion reported Q4 earnings on Thursday, and the numbers were not good. RIM reported $4.2 billion in revenue which was down from $5.2 billion. The company reported an adjusted net income of $.80 per share.
After the bad news was reported, the company confirmed that RIM co-founder Jim Balsillie will step down as director and leave the company.
“As I complete my retirement from RIM, I’m grateful for this remarkable experience and for the opportunity to have worked with outstanding professionals who helped turn a Canadian idea into a global success,” said Jim Balsillie.
Chief technology officer David Yach and chief operating officer Jim Rowan, will also leave the company.
“RIM would like to thank David Yach and Jim Rowan for their years of service and many contributions to RIM,” said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO. “We wish them well in their future pursuits.”
RIM is on its way down and it's very sad to watch. They have simply been out-gunned by Apple and Google. They should seriously seek a deal with Microsoft so they can have some hope of staying relevant. BlackBerry 10 devices are on track for late 2012 release, but that seems like an eternity in the smartphone space.
