I travel quite often and I have always noticed that the smartphone of choice for travelers has been BlackBerry. Whenever I would be on a plane or in an airport, most people around me would be carrying a BlackBerry. I don't have any study to prove it, but that was my experience.
The stats have shifted big time. I just came off of a 3 week trip where I took several flights. In every case, the iPhone was the phone of choice. In the airport lounges, clubs, and on flights, most people had an iPhone. In the case of the Philadelphia Airport's American Airline's Admirals Club, there were about 8 people sitting in the lounge and every single one of them had an iPhone. What happened to BlackBerry?
RIM has dropped all of their hopes into BlackBerry 10, but those devices won't be released until late this year. I'm afraid that is just too far behind everyone else. The Samsung Galaxy S III is launching this month, and the new iPhone is due to hit in September or October if the rumors are to be believed. Does anyone seriously think RIM can start to gain market share again with BlackBerry 10? I doubt it.
RIM was caught asleep at the wheel and we haven't had a bit of good news since the slide started. The news keeps getting worse and worse and it now appears that the company is looking to be acquired, if the rumors are to be believed.
A lot of people around the world are still rooting for RIM to make a comeback. Can they? What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
