The expected layoffs at Research in Motion are now a reality. According to the Financial Post, Nova Scotia’s economic development minister says Research in Motion laid off almost a quarter of its Halifax office. There were approximately 400 people working there and 95 people were cut. BGR reports that the 95 number is not exactly accurate and that fewer people were laid off. They also state that about 550 people worked in the Halifax office, not 400. Whatever the number RIM is definitely cutting staff and a lot of people are now out of work.
A RIM spokesperson said the cuts are part of the company’s June 28 announcement that they would reduce their workforce by 5,000 worldwide.
