Research in Motion has had a couple of bad years as their users have switched to iPhones and Android phones, and their stock price has plummeted. Many still expect RIM to either be acquired or go belly up in the next year or so, but RIM CEO Thorsten Heins has different thoughts. According to CNET, Heins believes RIM still has a "clear shot" at being no. 3 in the smartphone space. Really?
RIM will no doubt make a good quality product, but it seems so late in the game for them. Most of the growth in the smartphone market will have taken place by the time BlackBerry 10 is ready. In fact, some analysts believe that smartphone growth will slow dramatically in 2013. Will people be willing to dump iPhones or Android phones for BlackBerry 10? We'll see.
"We have a clear shot at being the No. 3 platform in the market," said Heins, who took the reigns at RIM nine months ago. "Carriers want other platforms. And we're not just another open platform running on another system. We're BlackBerry."
