BlackBerry released BBM for iOS and Android this week, but nobody expected it to be very successful. Wrong! On the first day BBM was the number one free download on iOS which was very surprising. Even more surprising is that it is still number 2 after 3 days. For some reason, a lot of people want BBM on their phone even if they don't have a BlackBerry.
This is the first great news for BlackBerry that we've heard in awhile. Why do so many people want BBM? Wno knows. Can BlackBerry monetize this success? Who knows. What will happen a week from now when it's no longer one of the top downloads? Nobody knows.
Although successful, BBM may have a huge security issue. Apparently, everyone using BBM uses the same key so it is relatively easy to break. Security nuts should probably use an app like Threema, but if you aren't discussing national secrets, and you don't like iMessage, Whatsapp, or Viber, check out BBM. A lot of other people are checking it out!
