Reports are out today that BlackBerry is speeding up its sale process and hopes to have the company auctioned off by November. According to Dow Jones, BlackBerry is in ongoing discussions with multiple parties interested in buying the company, or parts of the company. Many believed Microsoft was in line to acquire BlackBerry, but the recent announcement that Microsoft acquired Nokia has quashed many of those rumors.
BlackBerry's long fall from the top seems to be nearing the end. Unless the company goes private and continues on as a niche player, they seem to be headed for certain doom. The company is not offering anything special that would cause people to choose BlackBerry over iOS or Android. Technology is constantly changing and BlackBerry has not been able to keep up.
Hopefully, they will be able to go private and keep supplying the best hard keyboard in the industry!
"Blackberry isn't even on life support. They are in a much worse position, they are almost finished," said Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research.
"It's hard to think anyone would want to buy them lock, stock and barrel," said Charles Golvin, a principal analyst at Forrester Research. "I think they have components that are valuable. But I don't think they will survive as the Blackberry we know today."
