BlackBerry has finally announced its plan to monetize BBM. BlackBerry will look to raise revenue by going after sponsorships with brand names and by launching a new BBM Shop. Users will be able to purchase extra emoticons at first, but the BBM Shop will likely grow and eventually provide a secure mobile payment platform. If BlackBerry's vision is fulfilled, BBM could be very valuable.
BlackBerry has no intention of charging users for BBM at this time.
There will be an update to BBM coming soon. It will be interesting to see where BlackBerry goes with BBM. Can it save the company? Let me know what you think in the comments.
