BlackBerry has issued a security update for its BlackBerry 10 OS. The update fixes a vulnerability that has not yet been exploited, but the company wanted to get out ahead of it. Named CVE-2014-1468, the exploit is the result of a buffer overflow in the BlackBerry 10 qconnDoor network service . The service handles remote debugging connections and could potentially be exploited.
Users should update if they use developer mode. In the meantime, turning off developer mode or disabling WiFi while using the feature will work as well.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could potentially result in an attacker terminating the qconnDoor service running on a user's BlackBerry smartphone. In addition, the attacker could potentially execute code on the user’s BlackBerry smartphone with the privileges of the root user (superuser).
