BlackBerry made a bold addition to their executive team. Since the restructuring of BlackBerry began with John Chen taking over as CEO, the company has been without a chief operating officer. That has changed today with the announcement that former Sybase executive, Marty Beard, has been named as BlackBerry's COO. The move underscores Mr. Chen's confidence in a BlackBerry turnaround.
Marty Beard has experience in technology companies and a history with CEO, John Chen.
BlackBerry said Mr. Beard will oversee marketing, BB10 apps, customer care and quality. His appointment is effective immediately.

As former chairman and chief executive of California-based LiveOps Inc., Mr. Beard is experienced selling technology to BlackBerry's targeted enterprise market. The closely held company offers cloud computing services that allow businesses to manage or outsource their customer call centers to operate more efficiently. The pay-for-use service means companies don't pay for call-center capabilities when the demand doesn't exist. LiveOps' customers include Salesforce.com Inc., Symantec Inc. and Royal Mail Group.
