BlackBerry is not giving up on devices despite its poor sales record of late. The company launched a new Android handset on Tuesday which the company says is the most secure Android phone on the market. The DTEK50 is available for preorder for $299 and will ship on August 8.
The DTEK50 has some decent specs. It has a 5.2-inch HD display, 13-megapixel rear camera with an 8-megapixel front camera with flash. It comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Not bad at all. The one weakness is the DTEK50 does not have a fingerprint reader. That makes the phone much less convenient, but at the $299 price point it's probably a sacrifice that had to be made.
Although the DTEK50 is a full fledged Android phone, it will come with a couple of BlackBerry features. Users can use the BlackBerry Hub, and the phone will have a convenience key. BlackBerry diehards will be familiar with both.
Can this new Android phone make you fall in love with BlackBerry again?
